Newcastle forget Bellamy and advance

Newcastle strikers Alan Shearer and Shola Ameobi made light of the absence of Craig Bellamy to help fire their side into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory.

Shearer blasted home his 12th goal of the season eight minutes before half-time and Ameobi added a second five minutes later to pave the way for victory.

Substitute Dele Adebola pulled one back for the visitors in first-half injury-time, but Celestine Babayaro's first goal for the Magpies seven minutes after the break made the game safe.

Patrick Kluivert was desperately unfortunate not to add his name to the scoresheet with 61 minutes gone when he met Shearer's driven cross with a firm header, but saw the ball come back off the crossbar and bounce on the line before being hacked away.

New signing Amdy Faye impressed on his debut playing in the midfield holding role, while Celestine Babayaro and Stephen Carr, appearing for the first time in 15 games, returned from injury.

Andy O'Brien replaced Jean-Alain Boumsong, and there was a rare start in goal for Steve Harper.
