Diva may perform in Japan
Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:53Connections of the dual Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva are considering sending the horse to Japan for the Grade 1 Tenno Sho on May 1.
The hugely popular mare, who took Australia's biggest race in 2003 and 2004, is being lined up for a tilt at the Kyoto race which is over the eight-year-old's best distance of two miles.
Makybe Diva is also pencilled in to travel to Dubai in March but she is expected to have two runs in Sydney before she heads to the Middle East.
Trainer Lee Freedman mentioned a possible tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after Makybe Diva's last Melbourne win but the mare's owner Tony Santic has no definite plans in mind.
"Where she goes is entirely up to Makybe Diva herself," he told The Australian. " But I am very interested in the idea of her racing in Japan and this one looks to be a very suitable race for her, as is the timing."
