Megson unveiled as new Forest boss
Monday, 10 January 2005 12:22Football League Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest have unveiled Gary Megson as their new manager.
45-year-old Megson, a former Forest player, was sacked by West Brom in October after he revealed he would leave the Baggies at the end of the season.
Caretaker Forest boss Mick Harford, who has won just two of his six games in charge, will leave the club along with coach Des Walker.
The caretaker boss steered the second-from-bottom club to a 3-0 FA Cup third round win over QPR on Saturday - a match in which Republic of Ireland international Andy Reid opened Forest's account.
However Forest chairman Nigel Doughty believes the time is right now for a change. "We felt we had to make a change at this particular time," he said.
"If we had left it another five games and remained in the same position in the Championship table, not only would we have found ourselves with a strategy that wasn't working but also one that we could not change."
"It would have been virtually impossible to attract a manager of genuine quality to the club with so few games remaining."
"Moreover, candidates of the quality and track record of Gary Megson only become available very infrequently and we felt this was too good an opportunity for Nottingham Forest to miss," Doughty added.
