Chepstow and Leicester to go ahead

Today's meetings at Chepstow, which features the Coral Welsh National, and Leicester have been given the go-ahead. Officials at the Chepstow had called a precautionary inspection for 7.30am due to forecast cold weather but it was not needed.

Clerk of the course Tim Long said: "There are no problems. Coral Welsh National day is on." Chepstow have had 14 millimetres of rain overnight and the going is now heavy.

This afternoon's meeting at Leicester will go ahead after passing a 9.30am inspection. Officials at the track checked the course for a second time after an 8.30am inspection proved inconclusive.

There had been some problem areas of frost in the ground but clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson said: "Racing goes ahead. The going has changed. On the hurdles course it is soft, heavy in places and on the chase course it is good to soft, soft in places."
