Swinburn off the mark

At the eight time of asking, Walter Swinburn saddled his first winner as a trainer when Grand Show landed the second division of the Faucets For Grohe Maiden Stakes at Lingfield on Tuesday.

Ridden by Richard Quinn, Grand Show was sent off the 7-4 favourite and was always prominent, taking the lead over a furlong from home before going away to score by two lengths.

Swinburn said with a sigh of relief: "That was much more nerve-racking watching than it ever was when I was riding. As soon as Richard gave him a smack he just took off.

The former Derby winning jockey took over the licence from his father-in-law Peter Harris and the winner carried the familiar yellow, green and red colours of Harris's wife Caryl.
