Kenyan ace breaks Dublin marathon record
Monday, 25 October 2004 18:39Kenyan runner Lezan Kimutai won the men's Dublin City Marathon, breaking the 22-old-record in the process.
Kimutai won the men's race in a time of 2:13:45, curring 37 seconds off Gerry Kiernan's previous record, which had stood since 1982.
Letterkenny's Gary Crossan was the first Irishman home, finishing in 12th overall, with a time of 2.24.07 to take the Irish National Marathon title.
Meanwhile, Russian Yelena Burykina won the women's marathon in an impressive time of 2:32:52. Valerie Vaughan won the women's Irish title for the first time in 2:52:10.
