Beckham escapes punishment for booking
Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:38David Beckham has escaped any punishment for his 'intentional' yellow card against Wales during England's recent World Cup qualification game.
Beckham admitted after the game that he got himself booked for a tackle of Ben Thatcher because, with a broken rib, he knew he would miss the next England game and took the decision to get booked and and wanted to wipe out his existing caution by serving a one-match suspension.
The FA demanded an explanation from the England captain, but after conducting and investigation, decided that there was not enough evidence to charge him with bringing the game into disrepute.
The FA said in a statement: "The Football Association has today written to David Beckham in relation to the incident that led to his yellow card against Wales on October 9 and subsequent comments attributed to him in a national newspaper."
" Following due process under the FA's disciplinary regulations, the FA's compliance department has reviewed all the available information and concluded that there is insufficient evidence to pursue a disciplinary charge."
"However, David Beckham has been reminded of his responsibilities and the rules of conduct he is expected to adhere to both as an England player and as captain. The FA now considers this matter to be closed."
