No resolution in sight to Rovers crisis
Thursday, 7 October 2004 11:26There have been no signs of a resolution to the current crisis at Shamrock Rovers.
The players refused to train on Tuesday night because some of them are owed 3-4 weeks' wages. They will train tonight, and play tomorrow against Derry City, but they have not ruled out further industrial action.
Rovers chairman Tony Maguire insists there is a "misunderstanding".
However, the General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association in Ireland, Fran Gavin, has called on the FAI to get involved. He says the FAI knows what is going on, but they have chosen to "leave their heads stuck in the sand."
Rovers supporters have grown increasingly frustrated that there has been no move on development of the proposed new stadium in Tallaght, despite repeated claims by the club that work is about to re-commence.
