Newmarket next for Azamour?

Irish Champion Stakes winner Azamour may next be seen in the English equivalent at Newmarket on October 16.

The John Oxx-trained colt, who snatched a dramatic last-gasp victory at Leopardstown on Saturday, has the Breeders' Cup on his agenda too, but an attempt at the Prix de l`Arc de Triomphe was effectively ruled out.

"The Arc is highly unlikely because we wouldn't look upon him as a true mile-and-a-half horse at the moment, although he may well go that distance in the future," Oxx told the Racing Post on Sunday.

"A strongly run ten furlongs is probably perfect for him, so obviously the Champion Stakes is in our minds, but the siituation should be clearer in the next couple of days.

"The Breeders' Cup is also a possibility and the Turf would be one of the races under consideration, but whether we'd want to step him up to a mile and a half is another matter."
