Conditions improve at York

Tomorrow's first day of the Ebor meeting at York will get underway on ground that is good to soft, good in places.

The going on the Knavesmire had been on the soft side after some heavy rain last week but three largely dry days have seen conditions improve.

Clerk of the course William Derby said: "It's been about 21 degrees today, nice and warm and sunny which has helped the ground dry. We had 1.4 millimetres of rain at dawn this morning but we're all set to go," he said.

"It's due to be dry tonight and there is a possibility of showers tomorrow but they said that about today and we haven't seen any rain. We've had three really good drying days and now we're just looking forward to some top-class racing."
