Roe back in action on Sunday

Vinnie Roe is back in action on a seven race card beginning at 2.45, and Dermot Weld's star stayer can take the Ballyroan Stakes for the third successive year at Leopardstown on Sunday. This mile and a half Listed event has been successfully used in the past as a preliminary for the Irish St Leger, and hopefully he can take this en route to a crack at an unprecedented four-in-a-row in the Curragh classic.

Curragh Cup winner Mkuzi probably rates the chief danger, although the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Foreign Affairs is another significant threat. The Group 3 Desmond Stakes is the feature event, and Tropical Lady has a quick opportunity to regain the winning thread after an unlucky defeat at the Curragh last Sunday.

Jim Bolger's charge was boxed in on the rail when beaten a head by Solskjaer in the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes, and now faces the exciting Ace from the Ballydoyle stable. Competitive handicaps are the order of the day elsewhere on the afternoon, and Saintly Rachel may represent a solid each-way wager in the concluding 1m6f event.
