Dublin dismissed on debut
Saturday, 7 August 2004 21:30Dion Dublin's Leicester debut was cut short in dramatic fashion when he was shown a straight red card for violent conduct in the 0-0 draw against West Ham at the Walkers Stadium.
His dismissal means an automatic three-match ban and he misses the trips to Derby and Millwall and the home game against Watford.
Dublin was sent off after 17 minutes for kicking out at Rufus Brevett but West Ham failed to exploit it and were reduced to 10 men five minutes from the end when Brevett was sent off for a second yellow card.
Foxes manager Micky Adams said: "I can't comment on Dion's sending off without seeing it on the video. But without wishing to sound too much like Arsene Wenger, the weather was very hot and the sun was in my eyes!"
He did, however, see his own team's performance, adding: "The side did magnificently after the sending-off - we kept our shape and I thought David Connolly did a fantastic job in ploughing a lone furrow."
City gave debuts to five new signings - Jason Wilcox, Gareth Williams, Chris Makin, Connolly and Dublin - with Martin Keown named among the substitutes.
West Ham started with new strikers Teddy Sheringham and Sergei Rebrov while Michael Carrick did not travel due to transfer speculation.
