Kinane on quality at Leopardstown
Friday, 23 July 2004 13:13Leopardstown's seven race card on Saturday evening is low on numbers, but high on quality. The action is set to begin with an Auction Maiden at 5.45pm where it may pay to side with Mick Kinane. He would have had the pick of several in this contest and it is significant that he has chosen to partner the James Burns trained newcomer Vintage Quest.
Kinane rides the sole English raider, Big Bad Bob, in the featured Group3 Meld Stakes, but may have to settle for minor honours. His four rivals all hold strong claims and preference is for the only three-year-old in the line-up, Medicinal. This Dermot Weld trained grey was campaigned at a very high level before scoring over the course last time out.
Aidan O'Brien launces a three-pronged assault on the listed Tiros Stakes. Jamie Spenser has sided with Amsterdam, a maiden winner here from King Of Tory and Redrightreturning. Fearless Flyer, a runaway winner when stepped up in trip at Bellewstown, may provide the strongest opposition.
O'Brien looks certain to head to Galway on a winning note when he saddles impressive Navan scorer Ace in the concluding Richmond Race, which with four runners is the smallest field of the night.
