Hot favourite heads King George dozen
Monday, 19 July 2004 15:58Godolphon's Doyen heads the 12 declared for the King George And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, with Aidan O'Brien double handed for the midsummer showpiece.
The Godolphin four-year-old has assumed favouritism for the Ascot showpiece after his impressive six-length win in the Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal meeting, where he shattered the course record for a mile and a half.
Doyen could be joined by stablemates Sulamani, who was disappointing in the Princess Of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket last time, and likely pacemaker Lunar Sovereign.
The Aidan O'Brien assault involves Tattersalls Gold Cup winner
Powerscourt and Irish Derby third Tycoon.
Sir Michael Stoute still has Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner Gamut in the race, although Vodafone Derby winner North Light was taken out as expected today after suffering a slight training setback.
Clive Brittain's Coronation Cup winner and Coral-Eclipse second Warrsan is still in, as is the Elie Lellouche-trained Vallee Enchantee, who was an unlucky-in-running third at Epsom.
