Suroor hope for true run King George
Wednesday, 14 July 2004 21:51Godolphin's challenge for the King George at Ascot on Saturday week would be helped by a good pace according to trainer Saeed Bin Suroor.
Godolphin could have as many as three runners - Doyen, Sulamani and Papineau in the Ascot showpiece.
"There is usually a big field and good early speed in the King George, but if it looks like we will need to add something to ensure a good pace, then we will think about doing that nearer the time," said Bin Suroor.
There is still a doubt over the participation of Gold Cup winner Papineau, who has a bruised foot.
"We have still got nine or 10 days to the race. His foot is improving but we won't make a decision until nearer the time and we will have to see how he is training," Bin Suroor added.
The trainer reported last year's runner-up Sulamani and Hardwicke Stakes winner Doyen to be on course for the race.
"I'm very happy with Doyen. He never works as well on the Racecourse Side as he does on the Limekilns. Physically and mentally, he's in good shape. Sulamani is also in very good form."
