The former Lazio boss replaces Alberto Zaccheroni, who resigned last month after Inter finished fourth in Serie A, 23 points behind champions AC Milan.

Mancini, who starred as a player for Sampdoria and Lazio, has signed a three-year deal.

'Roberto Mancini has signed a contract with Inter until June 30, 2007,' read a statement on the club's official website, www.inter.it.
