Doyen the real McCoy is the view of Frankie

Frankie Dettori rates Doyen, favourite for the King George & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes very highly ahead of the midsummer showpiece at Ascot on July 24.

Godolphin's four-year-old shot to the head of the betting for the King George with a record-breaking victory over the King George course and distance in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Doyen produced one the most impressive performances at the Royal meeting when he demolished the opposition in the Group Two contest and in doing so broke the track record, which had stood since 1983.

Following his Hardwicke success, Doyen has been backed from 7-2 down to a top-priced 11-8 chance for the July 24 contest.

"I haven't seen him lately but all the reports are good,"  Dettori told At The Races.

"He won handsomely at Ascot so he didn't have too much of a hard race despite the track record. He's a wonderful horse, a beautiful-looking specimen. He's the real McCoy, I must say."
