Budweiser Derby Festival gets underway on Friday
Thursday, 24 June 2004 15:41The Goffs Challenge is the highlight on day one of the Derby Festival which kicks off with a seven race card.
The ¤130,000 highlight is a race confined to graduates of last
September's Goffs Challenge Sale.
Although most of the 14 runners have win or placed form, only a few look to have a chance.
The raiding British team look to have by far the strongest hand with recent Royal Ascot runner-ups Tournedos and
Spirit Of Chester expected to go close. The latter was second at 40/1 in the Listed Albany Stakes at the meeting although prefer is for Mick Channon's Tournedos.
The son of Rossini was himself second in the Windsor Stakes, following two other decent efforts. Best of the home team looks to be Benwilt Breeze.
The Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Derby can see Silver Silence win for trainer Jim Bolger and jockey David Moran.
A son of top Japanese stallion Sunday Silence, Silver Silence won a maiden at Naas and is second highest rated here at 92. At these weights, he can beat these rivals.
The Today FM Maiden looks a tricky contest with 89 rated Pulitser sure to be well fancied. However, Aidan O'Brien's well bred newcomer Agenda is likely to be ready first time out and
is a hopeful choice to fix it on Friday for punters .
