Ameobi signs new five-year deal with Magpies

Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi has signed a five-year contract with the club. The new deal will run until the end of the 2008-09 season, and is in recognition of another promising season for the 22-year-old in Bobby Robson's side.   

Ameobi, an England Under-21 international, scored 10 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions last season, and provided cover in the absence of Welsh striker Craig Bellamy.

Newcastle's chief operating officer Russell Cushing said: 'Shola has proved he is very worthy of this new contract.
