Russian connections considering alternatives

Connections of Russian Rhythm are considering alternative races for the filly who has been forced to miss the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday. The Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting and the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood are possible engagements for last year's Sagitta 1000 Guineas winner.

Trainer Sir Michael Stoute took her out of the Queen Anne at yesterday's confirmation stage as she was not ready to run having had a temperature following her victory in the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury last month.

Chris Richardson, racing manager to owners the Cheveley Park Stud, said: "Russian Rhythm had a setback with that temperature as well as one or two other things and Sir Michael felt she wasn't 100 per cent to compete in a race where she would need to be at the top of her game.

"It's very disappointing for the Thompsons (owners of Cheveley Park Stud) who especially enjoy running their horses at Royal Ascot and we try to provide them with a selection of races there.

"We have taken the view that it's a long year and we are only at the beginning of June and that when she comes back to herself there are options such as another crack at the Nassau, the Falmouth Stakes or perhaps the Sussex Stakes."

David and Patricia Thompson still have a strong representation next week with Iceman set to tackle the Coventry Stakes, Soar the Queen Mary Stakes and Red Bloom a probable for the Coronation Stakes.
