Saha makes France Euro 2004 squad

Manchester United striker Louis Saha was today named in France's 23-man Euro 2004 squad. Saha, who joined United for £12.85million from Fulham in January, saw off competition from the likes of Sidney Govou and Peguy Luyindula to win a berth in the squad selected by Jacques Santini.

The France coach also decided that Sylvain Wiltord, who will leave Arsenal on a free transfer this summer, was worth a place in his squad, despite injuries preventing him playing a full role in the Gunners' championship-winning season.

He is joined by three other Highbury players in Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira. Chelsea's Marcel Desailly was confirmed as captain, and he was joined by club-mates Claude Makelele and William Gallas.

Auxerre's Rangers-bound Jean-Alain Boumsong is also included, but there was no place for Manchester City striker Nicholas Anelka despite a productive season in a struggling team.

Defending champions France play England in their first match of the tournament on June 13.

Squad: Barthez (Marseille), Boumsong (Auxerre), Coupet (Lyon), Dacourt (Roma), Desailly (Chelsea, capt), Gallas (Chelsea), Giuly (Monaco), Henry (Arsenal), Landreau (Nantes), Lizarazu (Bayern Munich), Makelele (Chelsea), Marlet (Marseille), Pedretti (Sochaux), Pires (Arsenal), Rothen (Monaco), Sagnol (Bayern Munich), Saha (Man Utd), Silvestre (Man Utd), Thuram (Juventus), Trezeguet (Juventus), Vieira (Arsenal), Wiltord (Arsenal), Zidane (Real Madrid).
