Quinless pens new Drogheda deal
Tuesday, 6 January 2004 14:00Drogheda United received a boost this morning as highly rated midfielder Mark Quinless, scorer of four goals in last season's campaign, put pen to paper and has accepted a new contract offered to him by manager Paul Doolin.
It is something of a fillip for the club, who finished one point above the promotion/relegation play-offs in 2003 and recently lose their 02 sponsorship, as top scoring striker Andy Myler, defender Aidan Lynch and Barry Kelly also re-signed before Christmas.
Doolin has brought in fresh players with the signings of Bohemians midfielder John Lester, 19-year-old UCD striker Mark Rooney and Waterford United's Alan Reilly, who was coaxed out of a return to the building site to concentrate on full-time football.
The former Shelbourne captain failed in his ¤10000 bid for Shamrock Rovers front man Tony Grant however, and must still be concerned as first choice goalkeeper Gary Rogers, also a Meath Gaelic footballer, has yet to re-sign to the Louth club ahead of the new season.
