Channon's Dancer wins Italian Group One race
Sunday, 16 November 2003 15:17Imperial Dancer crowned a great season for Mick Channon with an mpressive victory in the Group One Prix Roma-SIS in Italy today. The West Ilsley trainer has saddled 141 winners in Britain this year and his horses clearly remain in good heart. Imperial Dancer was slow into his stride as the stalls opened and was anchored at the rear of the field by Ted Durcan.
Quel Del Giaz cut out the running ahead of Blu For Life and Frankie Dettori's mount Sunstrach, winner of the 10-furlong race 12 months ago. As the field entered the Capannelle straight Dettori sent Sunstrach to the front, while Durcan made his move on the inside.
Imperial Dancer enjoyed a smooth passage on the far rail and was switched to challenge the leader a furlong out. He produced a telling burst of speed, striding clear to score in great style from the staying-on Altieri, with Sunstrach a close third. Imperial Dancer was gaining a well-deserved success in the highest grade, having run consistently well in top races this year.
