Chelsea Emerson bid rebuffed

Roma president, Franco Sensi, has claimed that he turned down a bid in the region of £25 million for Chelsea during the summer for Brazilian ace Emerson.

Chelsea's billionaire owner has just completed a summer spending spree valued at over £100 million pounds and has already brought in Serie A stars such as Hernan Crespo from Internationale and Adrian Mutu from Parma. But the Russian reportedly failed in his attempts to lure the World Cup winner from Roma.

"Abramovich offered me 40million euro and I said no," he said. "I told the player that I would never have sold him and I have assured him that we will extend his contract - he will get what he deserves".

Chelsea completed their summer spending when they signed French international Claude Makelele from Real Madrid for £16.8million yesterday.
