Keegan wants one more signing
Wednesday, 6 August 2003 09:58Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan has hinted that his summer spending spree may not be finished, and admits that he wants to strengthen his squad further.
The former England boss has brought no less than five new faces to the City of Manchester stadium, but is still keen to spend again. "A lot has gone on in the close season but I think we have taken the club forward," he said.
"I would like to think there is one more but my chairman might have different views on that. He has been very supportive as have the board. If we can get one or two players out, I would like to bring one more in," he added.
Keegan has acted very shrewdly in the transfer market and signed the likes of Trevor Sinclair and Paul Bosvelt for modest sums, however he believes that the capture on England international goalkeeper David Seaman was his biggest coup. "David Seaman's signing is the biggest one we have made. Replacing Peter Schmeichel was always going to be difficult. There was only one man and we got him," he said.
The City manager is also satisfied with the way that his new players have bedded in during the pre-season and revealed; "I couldn't be more pleased. The friendly games have all been worthwhile and the attitude of the players has been excellent. We can look forward with optimism, we have a lot going for us."
