Fanshawe, Tregoning and Pipe taste big race Ascot success
Wednesday, 18 June 2003 20:50James Fanshawe had a day to remember as Macadamia gave him his first Royal Ascot winner in the £125,000 Royal Hunt Cup this afternoon. The 8-1 chance hit the front 2f out and stayed on strongly all the way to the line. Macadamia beat Camp Commander by 1}L, with the same distance back to Tough Love.
Pentecost (25/1) rewarded each-way backers taking fourth place. The big staying race of the day, the 2m 4f Ascot Stakes, was won for the fifth time by Champion jumps trainer Martin Pipe who sent Sindapour out to beat top hyrdler Landing Light by 3L.
Nayef silenced his critics with a superb performance under Richard Hills to win the Group One Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot today. The Marcus Tregoning-trained 5yo, owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum, had not been seen out since finishing only third in the Dubai World Cup, 6L behind Moon Ballad, who started favourite.
Ekraar, ridden by Willie Supple, made the pace for Nayef forcing front runner Moon Ballad to gallop at a fast pace under Frankie Dettorio allowing along the long striding Nayef to wind the race up as the favourite fell away.
