Dalakhani set to run in Budweiser Derby at the Curragh
Wednesday, 11 June 2003 11:44Dalakhani, winner of the French Derby, is reported to be on course for the Irish equivalent later this month at the Curragh. The Alain de Royer Dupre-trained colt, who is unbeaten in six starts including the Group One Prix Lupin and the Criterium International, is set to tackle the June 29 event at the Curragh.
Dalakhani's owner the Aga Khan is also set to run Vodafone Derby third Alamshar in the Irish Classic. Pat Downes, spokesman for the owner and manager of his Irish studs, told the Racing Post: 'The plan is for Dalakhani and Alamshar to run in the Budweiser Irish Derby. But the ground situation will be very important if it's to happen.'
Alain de Royer-Dupre and John Oxx will train the two horses for the race. However, if the ground is soft then Alamshar will not run and if it comes up very soft then neither horse will run.
The pair could face Epsom victor Kris Kin at the Curragh, but connections of the Derby winner would have to pay a ¤95,000 supplementary fee for their colt to run.
