English Football League revamp in the pipeline

The English Football League's chairmen have agreed in principle to revamp aspects of the game outside the Premiership. After a meeting of the 72 clubs at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium today, they announced plans to dock points or relegate teams who fall into administration. Also wages would be capped as a percentage of annual turnover in Division Three from next season with the regulations extended to Divisions One and Two in time for season 2004-05. And the current play-off structure would be extended to accommodate six instead of the current four teams per division.

The latter two decisions are expected to be ratified at The League's AGM on June 5 with an extraordinary general meeting set to be arranged for ratification of punishments for clubs who enter administration.
