Drogheda beat Derry at Brandywell

Drogheda United claimed their first win of the new eircom Premier League season with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Derry City at The Brandywell on Tuesday night. The home side will wonder how United escaped with all three points after they had dominated the game for long periods after the visitors had taken a 6th minute lead.

Mark Quinless scored the only goal of the game when he blasted home following Sean Gallagher's surging run and cross from the left. Goalkeeper Alan Rogers played his part for United with a second-half penalty save from Ciaran Martyn.
