Dublin facing double charge
Thursday, 27 March 2003 09:04Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin is facing up to another three-match ban after being hit with two FA charges over his conduct in the Birmingham derby earlier this month. The veteran Aston Villa striker is currently serving an automatic three-game suspension following his dismissal against the Blues for a head-butt into the face of Robbie Savage.
Now Dublin has learned he will also faces a double charge of `improper conduct' relating to incidents which followed the red card.
The former Manchester United forward lost his cool completely and had to be restrained by team-mates before finally leaving the field, when, clearly still annoyed, he bellowed `cheat' directly at one of the television cameras covering the game.
If he is found guilty on both counts, Dublin is set to receive a three-match ban, while opposing striker Christophe Dugarry is facing a similar punishment, plus a heavy fine, after being charged with spitting at an opponent.
Both Villa and Birmingham are also facing an FA charge of failing to control their players after the mass confrontation which followed the dismissal of home midfielder Joey Gudjonsson in the second half of the game, which the visitors won 2-0.
