Ladies integration pilot scheme is launched

A Pilot Scheme with the aim of establishing the best framework for the integration of the Ladies Football and Camogie Associations with the GAA itself was launched at Croke Park today by Mary Mc Aleese.
The scheme, which will run from March until October in eight counties, will aim to highlight the various challenges which integration poses and provide solutions ahead of closer liaisons between the three Associations in a national context.
The eight counties taking part in the initial scheme are: Galway, Roscommon, Limerick, Tipperary, Tyrone, Down, Laois and Wexford.
Mr Sean Mc Cague, President of Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, welcomed the initiative saying that all three Associations had expressed their desire to go forward as a united entity in the promotion of their shared ideals.
He said: "The potential of all three Associations and their effectiveness in promoting Gaelic Games can best be achieved through a concerted effort on all our parts. We share common goals and ideals and there is already significant crossover in our activities on the ground in terms of shared facilities and coaching and games promotion strategies". He further stated that integration had already effectively taken place in many clubs around the country.
The Integration process will be monitored by a steering committee appointed in each county. This committee will consist of two representatives from each Association and will have responsibility for formulating an integration framework suitable to each county with emphasis on areas such as membership and the shared use of resources and facilities.
Cumann Camógaíochta na nGael was founded in 1904 and will celebrate it's centenary next year. The Ladies Gaelic Football Association (Cumann Peil Gael na mBan) was established in 1974 and has experienced phenomenal growth since it's inception.
