Numan to leave Rangers in the summer

Rangers defender Arthur Numan will leave the Ibrox club in the summer after failing to agree an extension to his current contract.

Despite being willing to take a pay-cut, the 33-year-old was unable to agree a new deal with Rangers and will be able to leave on a 'Bosman' transfer at the end of the current season.

The Dutch international said "Everyone knows the financial situation at the club and I was willing to take a pay cut but the gap between what the club offered and what I wanted was too big so I have decided I will leave in the summer."

"There would be no better way of ending my time in Scotland with a championship medal - and maybe even more," he added.

Numan's availability on a free transfer will attract a host of top clubs, with Ajax and Liverpool just two of the teams believed to be interested in securing his services. His exit will also leave the way clear for Rangers to extend the contract of Jerome Bonnissel.
