Ferguson to rest his stars

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has revealed he will rest several of his top players for next week's Champions League clash with Maccabi Haifa. United booked their place in the next round with last night's 3-2 win at Olympiakos although they still need at least a point to top Group F but Ferguson sees next week's trip to Cyprus as an opportunity to give his top players a much-needed break.

"It's good that we have got a place in the second stage because it means we can make changes next week," said the United boss. "The players who performed tonight are the same ones who have performed for most of the season. We have not been in a position, or had the luxury to change the team around, which has been a feature of our selections over the last few years. Next Tuesday we now have an opportunity to do it."

It is expected that Spanish keeper Ricardo will make his first start for the club since his arrival from Real Valladolid while Ryan Giggs and David Beckham are two of the players expected to be rested.
