Fergie believes United are being victimised

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United are being victimised by the Football Association. United captain Roy Keane was this week hit by a five-match ban and £150,000 fine after admitting in his autobiography that he had intended to foul Alfie Haaland.

Ferguson believes that punishment is out of step with those issued to other clubs. He told The Sun: "I do not think Manchester United get treated fairly because we are the biggest club. Maybe we feel victimised. When you consider two of the elbowing incidents that were dismissed last season, you wonder what is more serious - writing a book or almost taking someone's eyeball out."

However, Haaland's current club, Manchester City, believe Keane got off lightly. City chairman David Bernstein said: "It is sad that Keane can earn substantially from his book while Haaland's career is in the balance."
