Godolphin cup hopes work in Melbourne

Godolphin's contenders for the Tooheys New Melbourne Cup had their first serious workout this morning after arriving in Australia at the beginning of the month. Hatha Anna, Beekeeper and Pugin had a five furlong spin on turf at Sandown racecourse where they are currently in quarantine.

Beekeeper finished just over two lengths in front of Pugin with Hatha Anna, who got a bit tired, in third. Godolphin's Tony Howarth told the official Godolphin website: "The gallop went very well and we were very happy with all of them. Beekeeper went particularly well.

Irish Champion Stakes winner Grandera, who also shipped at the start of the month, is set to have his first piece of work tomorrow ahead of his tilt at the Group One Carlton Draught Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 26.
