Ferguson hails world class Veron

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson hailed Juan Sebastian Veron as world class last night after the Argentinian scored a marvellous goal to help United to a 4-0 win in the Champions League. Many feel Veron has not reached his full potential since arriving at Old Trafford but if last night's effort is anything to go by, his talents could be emerging.

Veron raced on to a wonderful lay-off from David Beckham and floated a delicate 20-yard chip over the head of Olympiakos keeper Dimitrios Eleftheropoulos.

"That was world class," said Ferguson. "You will not see a better goal than that in Europe tonight. He is not a renowned finisher but you can only admire something like that. It took some audacity just to try it. A lot of players would have blasted it or taken it round the goalkeeper. He took the difficult option of chipping him. It was a phenomenal bit of skill."
