Ferguson backs Beckham

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has spoken out in support of David Beckham following his elbow incident against Lee Bowyer during United's 1-0 defeat at Elland Road last week.

Although video replays showed Beckham's elbow strike Bowyer during the game, match referee Jeff Winter did not report the incident - meaning Beckham will not face any action from the Football Association.

And Ferguson told The Daily Mirror today, "I had a meeting with David about the incident. He really didn't think he had done anything wrong at the time. I believe there was no intent on David's part and that it was simply a clumsy challenge. The fact the FA decided not to do anything about it confirms my opinion."
