Weld concerned over Vinnie's Cup weight

Dual Irish St Leger winner Vinnie Roe's participation in the Melbourne Cup is in doubt after trainer Dermot Weld expressed concerns over the weight his charge will have to concede to Pugin at Flemington.

Vinnie Roe, who went into quarantine on Sunday evening, will have to concede 12lb to Pugin, who finished a close second to Weld's four-year-old in Saturday's Irish St Leger.

The Rosewell House handler told the Racing Post he believes that Vinnie Roe faces a 'mammoth task' in the November 5 contest and a final decision on his participation will be made later this week.
