Polar Way makes the journey worthwhile

Polar Way retained his unbeaten record in style as he took the Group Three Aon MacDonagh Boland Stakes despite a 13-hour journey to Ireland. Patiently ridden by Johnny Murtagh, the 5-2 second favourite proved too good for the top weight One Won One to earn a crack at the Diadem Stakes at Ascot.

'We had to bring him by land and sea overnight because he had a problem with the plane. It was a bit close to the race for comfort after such a long journey, but he has won well in the end,' said trainer Amanda Perrett.

A winner as a jockey at the Curragh some years ago, Mrs Perrett indicated that stable star Tillerman would be going for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot later this month.
