McCoy breaks all-time winners record

Tony McCoy created another piece of history when breaking Richard Dunwoody's all-time winners record on Mighty Montefalco at Uttoxeter this afternoon. The champion jockey's victory on the Jonjo O'Neill-trained gelding took him to 1,700 career wins after he earlier equalled Dunwoody's record of 1,699 on Dream With Me in the opening race.

McCoy, who last season smashed Sir Gordon Richards' record for the number of winners in a season, was typically modest after notching up his latest record. Former champion jockey Richard Dunwoody was one of a host of racing stars to pay tribute to the 28-year-old Ulsterman. And while it took Dunwoody 16 years and over 9300 mounts to amass 1699 winners, McCoy has needed just half that time and about 3000 fewer rides.
