Vinnie leads overseas Melbourne challenge

Dermot Weld's Vinnie Roe heads the 32 overseas entries announced today for this year's Melbourne Cup on November 5. Weld, who is the only European trainer to win the two-mile event, has a total of five entries while fellow Irishman John Oxx has one representative in Pugin.

Last year's runner-up Give The Slip is one of three Godolphin possibles on the list although they are classed as representing Dubai in the Flemington race.

Mark Johnston has three entries in the shape of Yavana's Pace, who will be making his second attempt at landing the race, And Beyond and Double Honour. Goodwood Cup winner Jardines Lookout is missing from the list although trainer Alan Jarvis has confirmed that he will be entered at the next stage.
