Agent insists Gudjohnsen is happy with Chelsea
Friday, 2 August 2002 15:41Eidur Gudjohnsen's agent has insisted the striker remains happy to remain at Chelsea and stressed that talks with the club over a pay rise are still ongoing. Agent Peter Harrison was responding to reports which claimed that Manchester United were preparing a bid for the striker to make up their complement of four forwards and that negotiations over a new deal had broken down at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has previously stressed his determination to keep hold of Gudjohnsen, who formed a prolific strike partnership with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink last season. Harrison is nevertheless negotiating for Gudjohnsen to receive a pay rise as a result of his progress since signing a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge two years ago.
However, he insisted: "There is no problem. Everyone is very relaxed about the situation and that means Eidur, Chelsea and myself. Talks with Trevor Birch Chelsea's new managing director have taken place and are ongoing. There is no deadline that has been set and no one is saying 'pay me more or I'm off'. Eidur has always been committed to Chelsea. He is very happy there and likes living in London."
