Phoenix Stakes switched to Curragh

The Curragh will stage the Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes for the first time on August 11th this year following the transfer of the Group One race from Leopardstown. The sprint track at Leopardstown is temporarily closed due to motorway construction.

The six furlong contest has confirmed its status as one of Europe's most valuable races for two-year-olds with a major boost in prize money to E300,000 this year.

Following the recent second forfeit stage 72 of Europe's top juveniles still hold an entry in the race including Royal Ascot winners Revenue and Statue Of Liberty. Aidan O'Brien, trainer of the latter, could also be represented by Railway Stakes winner Hold That Tiger and Anglesey Stakes winner Ontario.
