Jaguar face test to keep Eddie Irvine

Eddie Irvine has admitted that Jaguar racing face a major test in Barcelona this week that could affect his future with the team. Jaguar will unveil a radically altered version of their current car, which has been poor this season. The Irishman has said that if the new altered car does not bring major improvement on the track he could quit at the end of the season.

Irvine will test the car on Thursday in Barcelona after a two-day straight-line test in Belgium, which starts tomorrow. "This week's test is crucial. I think a lot of people are pinning a lot of hopes on it. It is the best job we think we could have done. We know our history and we know why we have made a mess of this car", said Irvine.

Irvine is nearing the end of his three-year contract with the team and he has warned he will only carry on if there is a certainty of a competitive car. The British Grand Prix is next for Jaguar and it will be one of the defining factors for Irvine's future if the car does not perform.
