Eddery equals Lester's career total at Ascot

Pat Eddery equalled Lester Piggot's career total of 4,493 winners with an impressive success on Romantic Liason in the Queen Mary Stakes on the second day of Royal Ascot. The Brian Meehan-trained filly, winner of her only previous start on the all-weather at Lingfield, quickened right away in the closing stages to score by three and a half lengths from Never A Doubt with favourite Rag Top a neck back in third.

Just James sprang a 20-1 surprise in the Group Three Jersey Stakes, the opening race of the day. On his Pattern race debut, Just James lead close home under Olivier Peslier for a neck victory over Steenberg.
