McRae considers having the chop

Scotland's Colin McRae has revealed he is considering having his little finger amputated in a bid to keep his World Rally Championship hopes alive. McRae damaged the finger in Corsica earlier this month and he says if it continues to hamper his driving he may have it surgically removed.

The Scot is set to compete in the Catalunya Rally in Spain at the weekend and he says after that he'll be able to make a decision. "If the damaged finger does get in the way in Catalunya and we've got four or five rallies coming up that we know we can win then, if it's going to be an impediment, I'll just have it taken off," McRae told Martin Whitaker, Director or European Motorsport for Ford.

McRae, champion in 1995, goes into this weekend's rally trailing leader Marcus Gronholm by fourteen points. The Catalunya Rally will be number four in the 14-round championship.
