Panizzi wins Rally of Corsica

Frenchman Gilles Panizzi has won the Rally of Corsica as Peugeot registered their first clean sweep of the podium positions. Panizzi finished 40.5 seconds ahead of Marcus Gronholm with Richard Burns back in third 52.4 seconds off the pace. The result means Gronholm extends his championship lead over Tommi Makinen.

Earlier, Britain's Colin McRae was airlifted to hospital as a precaution after he crashed out. The Scot went off the road in his Ford Focus WRC and was trapped in his car for a time before managing to pull himself free. He was sent to hospital with a hand injury.

"He's been taken to hospital by helicopter and there is the possibility that he may have broken something in his hand but it is nothing serious," said a spokesman for Ford.
