Murdock out of friendly with Poland

Colin Murdock has been ruled out of Northern Ireland's friendly against Poland next month after breaking his foot. The Preston North End player lasted just nine minutes of the FA Cup fourth round victory over Sheffield United last Saturday and an x-ray has revealed he broke a bone in his foot. The centre-back is now in plaster and is expected to be out for at least a month. Northern Ireland boss Sammy McIlroy is concerned that Murdock could also miss the up-coming friendly against Liechtenstein at the end of March.

"He had been playing with a problem for the last few weeks and on Saturday he had to come off. He had an x-ray and that's shown that he has broken a bone in his foot and he will be out for over a month. He may even be doubtful for Liechtenstein and we'll just have to wait and see," revealed McIlroy.

The Irish boss is due to name his squad for the game against Poland in Cyprus on February 13 at the beginning of next week. Although Murdock will be missing, Steve Lomas is set for a comeback after a long lay-off due to injury.
