Eight-in-a-row for record breaker Van Nistelrooy

Ruud van Nistelrooy has become the first player to score in eight consecutive Premier League games with his first half stoppage time penalty against Blackburn at Old Trafford. Manchester United went on to win the game 2-1.

The Dutchman broke Mark Stein's record set in 1993-94 while playing for Chelsea. Van Nistelrooy's goal also puts him level with Manchester United's all-time league record, held by the late Liam Whelan. The record was set during the championship campaign of 1956-57, when the Busby Babes won the title. Whelan died in the Munich air disaster the following year.
