Connacht shine with nine tries

Connacht scored a record European win with a 61-13 victory over Roma in the Parker Pen Shield today despite a quarter-final place already beyond them. A brilliant nine-try haul leaves Connacht with a good chance of finishing second in the Pool behind quarter-finalists Sale Sharks.

Connacht led by 40-6 at the interval thanks to six tries. Marnus Uijs, one of several players to return from injury, got in for two as did winger Wayne Munn. Scrum-half Eoin Redden and Ronan Frost also crossed while two penalties from winger Anthony Merlo were the first points Roma scored on their travels this season.

Roma got on top after the restart but 15 minutes of pressure failed to yield a single score. Munn then broke for his third try and before the end Mark McHugh and Junior Charlie also crossed over.
